BE WELL TOGETHER HEALTH INEQUALITIES PROJECT

This project aims to support the wellbeing and active lifestyles of people with a learning disability in Tower Hamlets

The Be Well programme aims to address the significant health inequalities and higher risk of health conditions of people with learning disabilities. The project has been developed to create inclusive and accessible leisure opportunities to support people with learning disabilities to engage in exercise and physical activities that promote both physical and mental wellbeing.

Key aspects of the programme include:

  • Training for leisure centre staff on how to make reasonable adjustments for people with learning disabilities and how to best communicate with them
  • Expanding the range of accessible activities available
  • Encouraging social connection and reducing isolation
  • Working with local services, such as supported living providers and community organisations, to help people access these opportunities

Led by ICM Foundation, with support from Public Health and the Integrated Commissioning Team, the Be Well Together Health Inequalities Project aims to break down barriers to ensure that everyone in Tower Hamlets has the opportunity to lead a healthier and more active life.

This programme is part of Tower Hamlets Council’s commitment to reducing health inequalities, ensuring equal access to leisure and wellbeing services.
